Description

Volume is inscribed `Joseph Nott, His Book, April 20th, 1716 Anon Dom'. Instructions for the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom, used as a set of guidelines for fleets of war, or fleet siginals for communication. Extensively illustrated with pen and ink drawings, hand coloured drawings of ship signals, flags and guns.

Volume appears to be designed to aid Royal Navy tactics. The first Fighting Instructions were consolidated by James, Duke of York and Prince Rupert in the 1660s, permanent instructions dated from 1703.
