Description

Promises "public schools and fewer policemen, an inspector of weights ands measures, a public wharf and market house, prosperity for yourselves, and an independence for your children". Declares that the reader should not vote for "importers of Chinese slaves, for land sharks, absentee agents, or flour monopolists".

Likely to refer to Richard Wakelin, the editor of the "Independent" in 1853.

Said (by historian Susan Butterworth ca 1996) to have been written by Joseph Masters (1802-1873).
