The notebook includes diary descriptions of farming in January, a visit to Kaipara in October, with notes on speeches made and heard, and an expedition to the Waikato in November, where he visited Pirongia and Otorohanga among other places. The following volume (MS-1268) includes a more detailed account of this Waikato visit.
