Description

Shows a studio portrait of Maori leader Henare Tomoana seated and wearing a uniform [possibly a military uniform]. Taken by photographer Samuel Carnell [possibly taken circa 1869-1870).

Henare Tomoana led a contingent of Ngati Kahungunu to pursue Te Kooti circa 1969 (see entry in DNZB Vol.2, 1993).
