Entrance hall of house in Springfield road, Christchurch, New Zealand. Architects were the England Brothers. Photographed by Steffano Webb in 1907.
The view includes the carpeted floor, a staircase to the left, a hall seat to the right, and a far door open giving a glimpse into the room beyond. The woodwork of the stairs and the wall paneling are in an arts and crafts/art nouveau style, as is the wallpaper on the staircase walls. Art pottery palm pots have been placed in different parts of the view.
The house of which this entrance hall is a part, was built in 1906. The English Brothers architectural firm was set up in 1905 when Robert England, an established Christchurch architect, was joined by his brother, Edward.
