A view looking down into a trench which temporarily houses the company cookhouse of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, near the front during World War I. Helmeted soldiers prepare meals in very cramped conditions with only pieces of wood and corrugated iron above for protection. A large iron pot full of potatoes? and a meat grinder are visible in the foreground. Photograph taken near Gommecourt, France, 25 July 1918 by Henry Armytage Sanders.
