View from a high mountain towards Mitre Peak, sheathed in mist
Inscriptions: Verso - [In pencil in the artist's hand - title and] To see this view of the mountain it is necessary to take a climb some 500 feet up the Barren Peak Range abutting Fresh Water Basin. The altitude from the water's edge is 5640 ft and certainly is the conspicuous mountain of Milford Sound New Zealand. By Samuel H. Moreton, 198 Oxford Terrace, Christchurch, N. Z. [Then follows in ink, in a shaky, older hand] Dunbar Sloane Wellington, no. 179. To R. I McIntosh (Moreton) @ $200. [Then in ink, in another hand] C. E. Claydon.
