Photographs of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith's aircraft, Southern Cross, and two Bristol Fighter aircraft of the New Zealand Permanent Air Force, under temporary cover during their tour of New Zealand, which followed Smith's first aerial crossing of the Tasman Sea. Photograph taken September-October 1928, possibly by Nellie Ogden of Christchurch.
The Southern Cross landed at Christchurch on the morning of 11 September 1928. It left for Australia again from Blenheim at dawn on 8 October 1928.
