A Maori man working the land with a digging stick (ko) in the foreground, a gourd covered in flax ropes at his side, while two European men in the background by a cabbage tree point out to two Maori men the plough they have brought to New Zealand. Church Missionary Society Missionaries were the first to introduce the plough.
