- Description
Shows a stretch of river, or a corner of a lake, edged in the foreground by native bush with cabbage trees and tree ferns. A fully manned canoe moves towards the left, the men leaning over their paddles. On the far bank at the left is a small group of huts, possibly a pa. There is a sailboat across the water to the right. There are hills in the background, and a higher range of hills in the left distance.
Winsor and Newton stamp on verso of canvas suggests the frame and stretcher were assembled and sold in this form by Winsor & Newton. Other notations on the verso include large rubber stamps: WK223 and WR112. The stretcher shows a felt pen inscription: v 10 / v 7. L555.
