Group including Governor General Lord Bledisloe (front left) and Joseph Coates (front right), during the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Dominion Museum and National Art Gallery on Buckle Street, Wellington. Mr Coates is in the process of presenting the gold trowel to the Governor General. Man in the centre unidentified. Taken in 1934 by an unidentified photographer.

Inscriptions: Verso - Rt Hon J G Coates presenting the gold trowel to Lord Bledisloe which the Governor General used later during the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the National Art Gallery & Dominion Museum.
