- Description
A scene in Parliament with the leaders of National (Sidney Holland) and Labour (Peter Fraser) each conducting their own band or orchestra of Members of Parliament. The two conductors are back-to-back and turning to glare at one another. Recognisable on the National side are Keith Holyoake, far right, front row, with Ronald Algie behind him. The leader of the band on the Labour side is Walter Nash. The National group are mostly playing conventional orchestral instruments, although one M. P. is playing a large tobacco pipe. The Labour side has instruments like paper bags, a pan, hammers, a rattle and a revolver. Refers to the conflicts of the debating chamber in Parliament and possibly to the opening of Parliament.
