The group of 27 Japanese from Kanoura was visiting King's Wharf to see where early 20th century Japanese explorers set sail for Antarctica. Kanoura was the home town of the ship's lieutenant Choku Shirase. Among the group was the lieutenant's grand-newphew Tomokazu Shirase.
