Description

Photograph of MP James Carroll and others, sitting on logs to be pulled by horses along the bush railway to the East Coast Timber and Trading Company mill at Tapuihikitea, Gisborne. The party is celebrating the opening of the Waihopi Bridge over the Waipaoa River, which enabled the link between the Gisborne mill and the bush. Photograph taken in 1905 by William Fitzgerald Crawford.

Source of descriptive information - From back of file print: `In 1905 when the Waihopi Bridge over the Waipaoa River was opened linking the East Coast Timber & Trading Co mill (owned by the Drummond Bros) at Tapuihikitea with the bush, MP James Carroll & a large party of local noteworthies came for the celebration.
