No 199, an H class steam locomotive, 0-4-2T type, a Fell engine for use on the Rimutaka Incline. Photograph taken at the Petone Railway Workshops by Albert Percy Godber.
H class NZR 199, was built at Avonside Railway Workshops in 1875, went into service on the Rimutaka Incline in January 1877, and was written off and preserved in March 1956. See "Register of New Zealand Railways steam locomotives, 1863-1971" by W G Lloyd.
