Description

The story of Edwin Bold, born at Batley Carr, Yorkshire, who immigrated to New Zealand on the `Pleiades' in 1885 for health reasons. He was skilled in the woollen mill trade and worked as a wool classer on sheep stations near Timaru. Later he moved to Wellington, joined the Public Works Department and was appointed Land Purchase Officer some years later. He held that position for 23 years, the longest period it had been held by one person. He was musical, playing church organs and the piano, a keen horticulturist and photographer. Edwin married married Minnie Avison of Batley, Yorkshire just prior to immigrating. The essay includes information on their 6 children
