Steam locomotive 313, La class, type 4-4-0T, built by Nasmyth, Wilson & Co., Manchester, England. Photograph taken between 1900 and 1924 by Albert Percy Godber.
This engine entered service in 30 June 1890 as New Zealand Midland Railway Co. number 4, was renumbered NZR "La" 313 in 1900 when the Government took control of the Midland Railway Co. and was written off 8 November 1924. (Information from the `Register of New Zealand Steam Locomotives 1863-1971' by W G Lloyd, 1974, page 59.)
