A cluster of rough huts, with a fence in a bare plain close to the harbour. A road runs to the right and a group of four people stands in the distance
William Barnard Rhodes was involved with the purchase of lands in Waikanae, Porirua and Wellington from the Te Ati Awa and Ngati Toa tribes. Many of these purchases were later disputed by the tribes concerned. Rhodes had also invested heavily in trading and whaling operations in the Kapiti and Wellington districts as well as Northland.
