Description

A front view of "Wd" Class steam locomotive, NZR 323, 2-6-4T type. Photograph taken by Albert Percy Godber, ca 1901 or 1902.

Inscriptions: Photographer's title on negative - bottom left - Front view (Baldwin Locos)

"Wd" 323 was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia (maker's no. 18550/01), went into service in May 1901, and was written of in June 1933. See "Register of New Zealand Railways steam locomotives, 1863-1971" by W G Lloyd, and "Cavalcade of New Zealand locomotives" by A N Palmer & W W Stewart.
