Looking north east down the Wairau River valley with the foothills of the Richmond Range to the left with 'Ward's Pass' marked on the far left, and two marks in the distance indicating hills that may mark the south head of Port Underwood and the area of the artist's second traverse
Inscriptions: Recto - bottom right - title in ink in the hand of T. B. Collinson. Further annotations top left and in the sky area top centre and top right indicating passes and distant features
