Description

Shows two men in the foreground discussing a huge wire net strung between two buildings; in it are caught a score of people and some crashed vehicles.

The cartoon related to a project in which Wellington City Council commissioned Victoria University of Wellington's School of Architecture to come up with solutions to the problem of wind gusting along Courtenay Place. The project was led by Michael Donn. The group came to the conclusion that a wall across the street was the only way to block the wind, and supplied drawings showing a wind gate, essentially a wall with holes to allow traffic through. The idea was promoted for some time by Councillor Sue Driver, but was eventually shelved.
