Transcript by John Houston of diary kept by Livingston while he served with the Patea Field Force during the 1868-1869 Taranaki conflicts with introduction by Houston giving biographical background to Livingston, in particular his involvement with the 'Hawera Republic'. In his diary, Livingston describes the daily events of the land war and the various military engagements that took place.
