The steamship Taranaki alongside the Picton wharves, circa 1870. Taken by an unidentified photographer.
The `Taranaki' was built in 1865 by Blackwood & Gordon of Glasgow and operated by the NZ Steam Navigation Co, Wellington from 1865-68. She foundered on Boat Harbour Rock, Tory Channel, on 19 August 1868 but was raised in September 1869 and refitted for service. She was wrecked at Karewa Island on 29 November 1878.
