- Description
David Edwards' transcription of a shipboard diary by an unknown hand written on board the vessel `Larkins' during the voyage to Otago. The entries cover events 4 Jun-11 Sep 1849, which (from the contents) indicate it was possibly the diary of Isaac Hardy. Also bound with the transcription are a photocopy of the original diary held by the National Library of Australia, passenger list, positional summary, recipe for gruel, and map of route taken.
The `Larkins', a New Zealand Company ship, sailed from London on the 6 Jun 1849 and arrived at Port Chalmers, Otago, New Zealand on 11 Sep 1849. It continued onto Port Nicholson, Wellington on 21 Oct 1849, and on 10 Nov 1849 it sailed for Nelson with settlers.
