The historic landscape of Gommecourt that suffered destruction due to its strategic position in World War I. Shows an official notice that states in French and English: 'Historical landscape of Gommecourt. Reserved by French Government. No work is to be undertaken which might alter the appearance of the locality'. Tree damage can be seen in the background as well as disturbance to the ground by entrenchment. Photograph taken 13 May 1918 by Henry Armytage Sanders.
