Blenheim wharf in 1872 with surrounding waterway and buildings. In the centre is the paddle steamer `Lyttelton' and on the right is the brigantine `Falcon'. Photograph taken by William Collie.

The information and date accompanying this record comes from the back of the original print. However, according to Canterbury Heritage, the paddle tug SS Lyttelton was launched in 1878. They also suggest that this photograph was taken during the vessel's delivery voyage in early November of that year (ref. http://canterburyheritage.blogspot.com/2008/09/lytteltons-second-tug.html).
