This bridge was built as part of the Taupo Totara Timber Company's narrow-guage railway project from Putaruru south for approximately 50 miles to Mokai. The engineer-designer for this project was James Edward Fulton. Construction was completed in 1905. It was replaced with a steel bridge in 1935.
