Description

Soldiers of the Maori Battalion waiting to depart for service during World War II (possibly upon the ship Aquitania, from Wellington) circa 7 May 1940. Shows soldiers with their kit bags. The soldier standing in the middle holds a kit bag with “Pte R Hohua 39072” stencilled on the front. Photographer unidentified.

Publication note - Not published in the New Zealand Free Lance, 29 May 1940 or 5th June 1940.

Source of descriptive information - Notes on print. Information regarding the possible location (Wellington) and a possible name for a ship they might have been about to board (Aquitania), from a Library client, 15 Feb, 2007.
