Writing from Kaiapoi, James and Mary Youngman describe their voyage to Lyttelton on the `Zealandia' in 1858, their first impressions of Canterbury, Maori and their life in general since their arrival in Canterbury. Also photographs of fly-leaf of the Youngman family Bible (taken 2008) showing Youngman family entries dated 1840 to 1862. Note by donor Pat Youngman relating to a cousin Muriel Younger ; note relating to provenance of original shipboard letter/diary
