Mau parade moving west along Beach Road on `Black Saturday', 28 December, 1929, Apia, Samoa. Photograph taken by Alfred James Tattersall.

Black Saturday (28 December 1929) happened in Samoa when a clash between police and a peaceful Mau demonstration killed 12 people and wounded 30 others. Information from 'New Zealand's Heritage, The making of a nation, part 80, page 2236.

The people in the foreground are approximately at the spot where police tried to arrest Mata`utia. (Information from National Library exhibition notes of Va'aomanu: an exhibition celebrating the History and Culture of Samoa)
