Description

The aftermath of a battle, possibly at or near Augsburg, the artist's war-torn birthplace. There are wounded men being attended to in the foreground, surgical instruments, pieces of armour, a large tent (as a field hospital?) being erected, and smoke from burning buildings in the background

"Aug. Vind." in the title is an abbreviation for Augusta Vindelicum, the Latin name for Augsburg, the home of the artist and his son, the engraver.
