Description

Cadastral and surveying map of sections between Sydney and Lawrence streets and Cemetery Road showing W. B. D. Mantell's property and the adjacent museum site in 1869. The Corporation Block is marked and the encroachment on Mr. Mantell's property is visible. Gates and fences are marked.

Handwritten note on bottom left: Laid out in accordance with my instructions (signed) Henry Jackson, Chief Surveyor, 11th of June 1869

Handwritten note top centre of map: I am clearly of the opinion that the Corporation Block at A on plan laid down as the starting point for the new road through Glenbervie Terrace encroaches on Mr. Mantel's [sic] property for a distance of 17 feet or 25.7 links and having chained up the original distances from Molesworth Street (obtained from Field Book) I feel quite satisfied the pegs at B, C, D are in their proper position. Edward V. Briscoe, authorised surveyor, 14th Nov. 1885
