Description

An arrangement of text, with two illustrations: the first of a man hanging on gallows beside a priest, and the other a picture of a young man in jacket, waistcoat and cravat.

Twenty-year-old farm labourer William Mobbs murdered farm labourer Thomas James Newbury, aged nine or ten, with a knife, beside a pea-field at Little Linford near Newport Pagnell, on 22 July 1869. Both had been employed as bird-scarers.
