Description: A tramp passes by outside the TVNZ buildings, and puzzles at a group of well-dressed men and women rummaging through a litter bin. He recognises them as the TVNZ newsreaders. One of them is dreaming about finding John Hawkesby's contract Context: Refers to TVNZ's decision to cut newsreaders' salaries. The Hawkesby refernce is to his being hired, then fired by TVNZ, and receiving a multi-million dollar pay-out as compensation. TVNZ became a political punchbag as presenters' salaries then came under scrutiny and it stayed in the public eye for the rest of the year. Description: Exhibition caption reads - A generally subdued Winston Peters was back in his element when the Serious Fraud Office's investigation of 'Winebox' companies came under scutiny once again. Exhibited in '30 from 2000' exhibition of 30 cartoons from the New Zealand Cartoon Archive collection displayed in the National Library (auditorium foyer) from 7 July 2001. The cartoons were all published in the year 2000.
