A monument to the advent of Christianity in Otaki in 1840, which was erected in 1927 to replace the Jubilee Pole; and the Te Rauparaha Monument behind, erected by his son Tamihana Te Rauparaha, at Otaki. Photographed by A P Godber in 1931. The monument on the left has the following inscription in English (which follows the inscription in Maori) "This monument was erected by the Maoris and Europeans 9th Feb 1927, to replace the Jubilee Pole erected 9th Feb 1880, to commemorate the advent of Christianity in this district in the year of our Lord 1840".
