The records comprise Association minute books 1949-1971, correspondence 1966-1972, financial records, newspaper clippings, 1960 and 1971 constitutions of the Federation of New Zealand Housewives, correspondence between the Association and the Federation 1968-1972, and some published material including Health Department material on venereal disease.

The Wellington Housewives Association was established in 1946. It was concerned with the prices of essential commodities, the purity of foodstuffs and hygienic handling of food. The Association was also involved with youth and child welfare issues, community standards and, in its earlier days, equal pay for women in the workforce.
