Description

The letters describe their life in New Zealand, and include letters describing voyage of the Simlah to Auckland. The majority were written by Hugh, others are by his brothers and sisters and were sent to members of the family remaining in England. They describe the land, people and difficulties they faced in settling in the new colony

Hugh Ronald, together with his brother, arrived in New Zealand on the Simlah in 1853. They were later joined by their sisters and purchased a farm near New Plymouth.
