Diary contains an account of Stayte's military service from the time of his enlistment until five days before his death. It includes descriptions of sailing from Wellington aboard the troopship `Manganin' on 14 November 1916, time spent in camp and on leave and his experiences while fighting on the Western front in Belgium and France.
Accompanying material - Accompanied by covering letter from Louise Buckingham enclosing copy of Stayte's war service record, probate details and additional details about his wife and children from NZSG CD-ROM
Stayte enlisted in the army in July 1916 and left New Zealand with the 19th Reinforcements of the NZEF. He served in the 1st Battalion, Auckland Regiment and was killed in action in France, 1 Oct 1918
