- Description
Shows a view of the Thorndon waterfront from Government House, with three jetties, and a row of houses along the curve of Lambton Quay. The Terrace is shown in the middle distance, with a few houses along it. Bolton Street and other tracks and roads are shown on the Tinakori Hill. There is a red-jacketted soldier in the right foreground, and a man with blue jacket and walking stick in the right foreground, at the corner of the fence surrounding the grounds of Government House. A cart with two horses, loaded with timber, travels along Lambton Quay in the foreground, and a man on horseback stands at the Bowen Street corner, by a prominent building with square turretted roof. That building is at Brandon's corner. In the 1860s it was J C Cook & Sons store, but was demolished in 1929, and is now the site of the cenotaph.
