Shows a view of the Wanganui River in the foreground. A cloaked Maori figure sits in the left foreground and there are two figures in a waka on the river. On the far bank is a two-storeyed house with an outbuilding away to its right. In the far distance is the snowy Central Plateau with four peaks.
The house on the far bank is probably the Sedgebrook house at Aramaho.

Provenance: The vendor's great-grandfather commissioned four works from Hoyte before a return trip to his hometown Elgin, Scotland, to offer an impression of the New Zealand landscape, but the works were not completed in time. He collected them at a later date. Previously owned by Mrs R Porteous, 7 Kowhai Road, Napier.
