The minute books record the activities of the League between 1913 and 1919. A small quantity of correspondence was folded inside the minute books. This has been removed and placed in folders.

The New Zealand Freedom League was founded in March 1913 to oppose the compulsory clauses of the New Zealand Defence Act. The group was Auckland based and concerned itself with assisting young men convicted because of their opposition to conscription and with increasing public awareness of the threat posed by militarism.
