Contains inwards letters from Kahui Kaharehe 1893-1907 (40); a letter from H H Lawry, and correspondence with A Leverd 1910-1915 (8). The extensive correspondence between Smith and Te Kahui Kararehe of Taranaki deals with Taranaki whakapapa, information about the migration to New Zealand from Hawaiki of the Aotea and Kurahaupo canoes, whakatauki, information about the Maori language, waiata, karakaia, information about 19th century conflicts and about tthe activities of Te Whiti and Tohu at Parihaka
