Description: Shows Minister for the Welfare of Women and Children, Mabel Howard, dressed as a Widgie, and tearing along on a motorbike followed by a crowd of Bodgies and Widgies. Below is Prime Minister, Walter Nash, who tells a passer-by that she 'says she wants to gain their confidence!' Refers to a statement by Mabel Howard that she would like to meet some bodgies and widgies. Bodgies and Widgies refer to a youth subculture that existed in Australia and New Zealand in the 1950s, similar to the Teddy Boy culture in the UK or Greaser culture in the US. Description: Shows a prosperous-looking British John Bull character instructing a young New Zealander about the notion that there can be no sentiment in business. They are looking out of a window at a busy British port unloading butter from Sweden, Norway and Holland and other imports from a number of other countries. New Zealand is not represented. On a table nearby is a top hat decorated with the Union Jack and on the wall are many posters depicting the aid that New Zealand has given to Britain from the First World War onwards. Description: 'Little Laughs from last week'. There are three small cartoons. [1] A young alligator representing 'The Rebate' swims away from a large grandaddy alligator with the face of Prime minister, Walter Nash, saying 'See you later, legislator'. Nash replies 'In a while, Honey Chile'. Refers to Labour's wish to get rid of the National policy of rebate on personal taxation. A tiny caricature of Sid Scales in the top left corner asks 'Where's the money coming from?' [2] A grubby small boy is dragged by his mother to be washed. He resists by arguing that he saw in the paper a report saying that too much washing is harmful. There is an apology to Pigpen.
