Head and shoulders portrait of 18 year old Hindu woman Narmadai Chinniah holding a lit prayer lamp, or diya, in a home temple. She is holding the lamp with both hands and the flame lights her face. A stick of incense, and pictures of deities, sit on a altar in the background. Photograph taken by Ross Giblin circa 28 November 1995, probably in the Wellington area.

Original caption reads: "Hinduism is more of a way of life than just a belief says Narmadai Chinniah, 18. There is no set creed, no ecclesiastical or institutional structure, no bible or Koran. It is faith and the tradition of that faith, she says, that leads her to behave in a certain way. (Evening Post, 28 November 1995)
