Tree fern to the left on a headland, overlooking a harbour entrance with a Maori canoe in the right foreground, a sailing ship centre, two smaller ships in the background and tall rock formations forming the entrance to the harbour.
The rock formations match no known harbour visited by Gold during his time in New Zealand and the topography may be imaginary, or possibly an extremely exaggerated version of Miramar Peninsula and the entrance to Wellington Harbour. Gold spent most of his time in Wellington.
Inscriptions: Verso - Carry [in pencil, the artist's affectionate form of his daughter, Caroline's name. The picture was given to Caroline Gold]
