Description

The aftermath of a battle, possibly at or near Augsburg, the artist's war-torn birthplace. There are dead men and a dead horse in the foreground, wounded soldiers being attended to and ruined buildings in the background

"Aug. Vind." in the title is an abbreviation for Augusta Vindelicum, the Latin name for Augsburg, the home of the artist and his son, the engraver.
