Shows record of Mantell's movements for the whole of August 1848. Mentions travelling Porirua to Wellington on 1 August, 7th leaving Wellington for Nelson and Motueka, then sailing via Port Underwood, where he spent from 13 to 18 August. Arrived Akaroa on 20 August, Akaroa to Pigeon Bay, staying at Ebenezer Hay's 25 August, '26th Pigeon Bay to Heaphy's P[ort]. Levy' 28th Port Levy to Rapaki, 29th Dean's at Riccarton, 30th Deans to Waimakariri, 31st 'W[ai]makariri to camp in Tuahiwi bush'.
