View of a wetland, a forest covered bluff, and the sea, Moturua Island, Bay of Islands, Northland, New Zealand. Photographed by Russell Duncan on the 19th of July 1914.
Inscriptions: Album page - Marion's voyage. View on Moturua Island. Bay of Islands. Looking towards S E. Same day as 58. 59. 60. The stream here which is always running flows near by the trees in centre. Lieut Roux & men were camped here -. On the high land in the distance on the right was where Tacoury's [Te Kauri's] pa was situated -. The high land to the right in the distance is a peninsula which partly shuts in the large Manawaora Bay & wholy shuts in Oraukawa Bay ( a small bay within Manawaora). It was the custom of the French ships to send a boat ashore every morning to Oraukawa Bay for firewood -. When the boat would round the point of the peninsula she would be out of sight of the ship.
