Portrait of verandahed dwelling, in Parnell Road, behind its picket fence and gate. A draped classical statue stands in the garden at left and there is a palm tree at right.
Accompanying notes say:"This beautiful Regency styled house which somehow resists change, was built in Parnell Road 1843. It is the oldest documented house in Auckland, and it originally stood on three acres of land. Famous men have lived there - two Prime Ministers, Sir Frederick Whitaker and Sir Francis Dillon Bell, Governor Gore Brown and Bishop Selwyn. William Hulme bought the house in 1846 for £1220".
