- Description
Diary covers period 13 Aug 1914-21 May 1915 and describes Cameron's activities during this period. They begin with ink-written optimism, whereas the final despairing entries are scrawled in pencil.
The diary inspired the New Zealand artist Bob Kerr, whose large multi-panel paintings of Gallipoli, with words from Cameron's diary, were exhibited in 2010.

Cameron sailed from New Zealand to Egypt with the Main Body of the NZEF in Oct 1914 and served as a trumpeter with the Canterbury Mounted Rifles. On 12 May 1915 he landed at Gallipoli where he saw action against the Turks. Soon afterwards he was discharged as medically unfit for service, and was shipped back to New Zealand.
